[Steve is sitting against a ledge, a perplexed look on his face, as a Hoppip floats around on a gentle breeze while clinging to a lock of Steve's hair to keep from blowing away (doodle), it happily chirps]

So, this Pokemon caught himself and doesn't want to be released... I guess he caught me, but is there, uh, another way to raise a Pokemon without making them fight? He's really not keen on it. Actually, he just sits there and cries.

[pebbles start getting thrown at the Hoppip by someone off camera, one hits and makes it start to cry, quite loudly. Steve gives a heavy sigh, because this is a regular occurrence since the Hoppip adopted him]

Hey, that's en-

[he turns to address whoever is throwing the pebbles and the pokegear gets closed in the process, ending the feed]

I am, it's a work in progress. There are good days and bad days, today's a bad one.

What have you done so far?

[feels a bit defensive like this person doesn't think he's handling the situation the best he can, so takes on a more formal tone]

I talk with her, make sure to project my emotions for where she can't understand what I'm saying, being that she can read auras. I try to make peaceful, positive activities for them, to develop a more coexisting relationship. She sometimes gets timeouts in her ball when she's particularly bad, which she doesn't like at all. I make sure to give her positive attention when she's being good and tolerant toward him.

I do think... getting Poppins to be more 'efficient' will make her warm up to him, I get the feeling she thinks he's useless and that's why she tries to drive him away.

[Whoa okay, sudden change in character there, and that leaves Hope a little confused. And thinking about how much he acts like a soldier right now.]

When you say auras, I assume you have a Riolu, considering they're the only ones around aside from their evolutions with the ability. They can be a little forceful if they want something, I admit that.

If you have a friend with a Psychic type, try and borrow it so you don't need to keep the conversation one-sided.

[wary for a moment more but he considers he might have misread him, then decides this guy is only trying to help and relaxes some, but not all the way as before]

Yeah, Grace is a Riolu. Forceful is one word for her.

That's a good idea, I don't think either of the people I'm traveling with do, but I'll ask around, maybe see if anyone in the next town can help. Thank you for the advice.

[relaxes a bit more, losing more of the formal tone]

My name is Hope Estheim. [Buuuuut unfortunately for him, he just cant finish off there because all this talk of Riolus had attracted someone else-- namely, Hope's Lucario who latches onto her trainer and tries to get a peek of the discussed Riolu.] ... And this is Oerba.

It's nice to meet you, Hope, [nods at the Lucario] you as well, Oerba. This is Poppins, [gestures to the now happy Hoppip] and...

[he takes Poppins ball and recalls him before gesturing to Grace who is still off camera]

Come say hello. [finally a slightly disgruntled Riolu comes to his side, clinging to his arm but never looking away from the camera, then a split second later seems to lose all interest and moves to hide behind Steve] And that's my darling Grace.

Unfortunately I cant introduce all of my Pokémon to you, otherwise we would be here all day but-- [starting to get drowned out by Oerba's 'hmph! how rude!' noises at Steve's Riolu and Hope pinches her nose to try and get her to suck in air and quiet down] -- Yes, hello.

It's nice to meet you too.

[Grace has no reaction to Oerba's noises, but Steve grimaces in apology]

Sorry about her, she's camera shy. That and... [looks over hits shoulder at her, then back at the camera as if finding words] she's a weird combination of stuck up and shy, so she ends up snubbing everyone.

[sighs as Grace makes an unhappy sound as his comment]

I'm hoping she grows out of it with time and training. She's a real darling with it's just me, so I'm hopeful.

So, you have a lot of Pokemon?

Twenty-one, and not counting the one egg I've just ordered. [Sounds a little embarrassed about that. But just a little.]

Some of them are not allowed in the house with how huge they are.

That's... a lot of Pokemon. I've only got the two plus two eggs. I'm still getting used to the whole, uh, catching idea. [aka he hasn't caught any yet because it seems too much like forcing the Pokemon to tag along with him]

I read up on a few, how big they are, it's not surprising they might not be allowed inside.

Ah, well, there's no shortage of trainers finding themselves with too many eggs. Though it's too much trouble if you get too much all at once.

Yeah, one of my eggs seems about ready to hatch and the other I'm picking up tomorrow when I reach Violet City, so they won't overlap too much. But I can see how having too many at once can be problem, especially for people who breed.

Usually it's not a problem for breeders, as a lot of them tend to give away the eggs to others, but it's a problem for those who tend to get carried away with buying far too many eggs.

That makes sense. I'll make sure not to get too many all at once.

Slow and steady is the best way to go.
