That's a good possibility, especially since from what I've heard the teleporting around before these strange...hm, creatures showed up occurred every six months or thereabouts. It's probable that the continuous effects of that acted much like ocean waves against a rock, slowly wearing it away until it crumbles. A theory I'd strongly love to test, but I'm afraid I wouldn't know where to begin with it. The only engineering I can do involves biology, unfortunately.
