004 [Video/Action for Route 39]

[Steve is sitting in the shade of a tree wearing a normal outfit (not his uniform), he's holding an Eevee in his arms, who is softly crying, and has a Lucario sitting next to him looking rather perplexed at the Eevee. Steve looks like he's a little unsure about this]

Grace evolved earlier today, I was a bit concerned about how long it was taking, but she does things at her own pace. [the Lucario looks at Steve and nods in agreement] It was really amazing, I didn't think she'd wind up being so big. No more carrying her around, though she's already picked me up and carried me around. [he chuckles as Grace puffs her chest out proudly]

The problem is Amber hasn't stopped crying and shying away from Grace since. I was thinking she was scared of her, but no, after some charades, I figured out she's really upset because she wants to evolve too. [the Eevee heaves something that is best described as a sob, leaning away from Grace, who is trying to comfort her with some pets]

I want her to meet more of her evolutions before she decides what she wants to be. She's met a number of Espeon's, but none of the others yet. Is anyone willing to humor us and let her at least meet more of her evolutions, even if it's just through video?

[yeah, Grace isn't impressed, she travels with a Skarmory, but luckily Tenten and her bird fall under "could care less" and she turns her attention to be on Steve and Amber, completely ignoring the guests]

One of my companions is a breeder I think, though I don't think he gets the concept, he just wants to conquer the badges. But yes, I feel ready to take on Falkner now that Grace evolved. I'll be heading back that way here in the next few weeks. Need to earn some money first.

[Tanuki is doing a great job cheering Amber up so far! She runs around him and jumps, trying to get as high up as him]

Well, considering our conversation, I'll take that as a compliment.

Do they sound like they actually kill people, or just kids trying to sound like they do but really don't know the first thing? Because they seem a bit... young for killing people. Ninja or not.

You can take it however you want. It's a free country.

It doesn't sound like empty bragging. They talk about fighting wars like it's no big deal. Like it's what everybody does where they're from.

[His expression gets darker with each word.]

Yeah they're a little fucking young!

[Feng takes that as a victory, letting out a pleased, rumbling metal-on-metal crow of delight, leading to another shush!ing from Tenten.]

I don't blame him for wanting to get the badges, they're a good point of pride, you know. [And for her, something to prove how great she is to Sasuke.] I like breeding, when my Pokémon let me, but battling is definitely what I'd rather do.

[Alright, now that she's starting to get cheered up... Tanuki's got to test if he has a new partner in crime. Game for sneaking up on his trainer and trying to climb all the way up to sit on her shoulders, new-friend-Amber?]

[blinks at the sudden mood change, not that he doesn't agree, just that Steve wasn't expecting it]

Their world sounds pretty awful for doing that. Kids should be allowed to be kids for as long as possible.

[Grace doesn't even bother looking at the bird when it makes noise, though she likes the aura of delight she gets from him, first time she's gotten a positive reaction to what Steve calls her "Queen Complex" it upgraded from princess when she evolved]

I probably would have made a better breeder, though I haven't done any of that yet. The battling, sometimes I'm not a fan. [Grace leans against Steve, just to offer comfort if he needs it, she hates when he's anything but happy, so she tries to preempt it] But they love it, so I'm not going to stop them, just patch the wounds and coach them.

[Partner in crime? He's come to the right Eevee for that. Amber totally game for this, excited, because she's a good climber and she wants to show off]

You don't like battling, either?

[He sounds like Joonhee in that respect... something she didn't think she'd ever understand, really, though the way his Pokémon leans against him? He definitely can't be all bad.]

I think that's one of the best ways to go about it. Pokémon are like people, they want to train to get as strong as they can.

[Speaking of Pokémon getting as strong as they can... With Amber complicit, Tanuki darts forward, immediately leaping to latch onto Tenten's back and propel himself up to rest both paws between her hairbuns. Feng, on the other hand, is none too impressed, screeching loudly and unfurling his wings in protest as he stamped the ground.]

Tanuki!!

[Blake is very good at getting from anywhere to angry in record time. Steve's lack of argument calms him down a little though.]

Yeah. Can't make him understand that, though. Kid's been brainwashed into thinking this shit is normal.

[well it's something they seem to work on, so yeah, Steve's not going to argue it]

Where he's from it might be, doesn't make it right, but seeing as we're not from his world, he's not about to take our opinions seriously.

I like training, but when they get knocked out, that's about the time that I become less of a fan.

[he gets distracted by her reaction to her Pokemon climbing her, but even more distracted when Amber follows suit and can't jump as high as Tanuki, landing on Tenten's but before scrambling up to her shoulders. Grace Immediately focuses on that bird, because one negative move at her hatchling and she won't hesitate to take action. Steve frowns, because that's rude, but he also has to high his amusement because the reactions are funny]

Amber!

Gyah!

[Alright Tanuki is hard enough to support, what with fifty-odd pounds worth of Espeon. Amber's clambering attempts don't help at all, leaving her stumbling and only barely managing to catch herself and spread her feet for balance.]

Tanuki, I keep telling you, you're too big for this now!

[Not that Tanuki cares. He's content to be there showing off to his new Eevee friend that look he can ride on his trainer's shoulders!]

It doesn't matter if child soldiers are a local tradition, it's pretty damn obvious there's something wrong there.

What am I supposed to do, pretend it's fucking okay?

Not at all, but don't yell at the kids for how the adults of that world messed them up. They don't see anything wrong with it, so go easy on the kids, it's not their fault.

Others of his kind might be, he's just not big on it. He's bonding with my other Pokemon, but he just doesn't like meeting new people.

[She first talks about how amazing electricity is and that he's going to be big and strong and awesome!

Then talks about how she's really interested in noggin talking, but her dad says to check all her possibilities before deciding since she only met noggin talkers]

Okay, Amber, come here. [he moves over to grab his fluff ball off Tenten, and man is Amber PLEASED with herself. She's chirping with glee, not caring in the slightest that Steve is pulling her away and holding her, as she tells Tanuki about how her trainer lets her ride on his shoulder's all the time, though she often lays on them, but his are really big so there's lots of room]

Course it's not the kids' fault!

[Blake rubs his head. A sigh comes out without his permission. His voice drops back to a normal register.]

It never is.

But the shit keeps happening to them.

[Amber moving isn't all that much of a relaxation as Tenten reaches back to snatches up Tanuki with a sigh of relief. Let the Eevee and the former-Eevee talk to each other, she was just going to set him right back down on the ground.]

Tanuki, not again. Don't encourage others to do it, either!

[She rubs her shoulder even as Tanuki moves into rub his cheek cat-like against Steve's ankle.]

Anyway, it's alright. With all the Pokémon I have, I shouldn't really be surprised by much.

I hope it's something he can work through. It's intimidating, but at least it gets easier the more you do it.

(Tempo looks pretty proud of himself at the mention of him becoming big and strong, but it's gonna be a good while until he reaches that point and he knows it.

Still, Noggin talking does fascinate him and he has to admit how neat it sounds, but now is wondering of maybe she can use electricity, too. Then they can be electricity friends!)

I'm sure he will. Some of my other Pokemon don't let him be as shy as he is, most of them are pretty friendly.

[Amber says that it would be really cool if they could be! But she has so many choices, she's not sure anymore! Then flops to the side dramatically]

[Okay, Blake's won some points in Steve's book]

Then it's our duty to save every kid we can from that.

[Steve sets Amber down, giving Tanuki a friendly pat and a smile, straightening up again]

Amber is the only one who climbs on me and she's the most mischievous. The rest aren't as into tricks and games as she is.

[Amber prances around her dad and Tanuki, clearly pleased with herself, but then also asks Tanuki is his trainer is mad at them.]

Serve and protect, right?

[The words come out with the irony of long familiarity.]

I've seen a lot of shit, but there's something special about psycho scumbags getting little kids killed for something that has nothing to do with them.

I'm glad she has others to help her along; shyness is easiest to overcome with the help of others...even if that seems like a strange way to go about it.

(Tempo can't help but laugh a little. Having so many choices must be really scary, but really great at the same time. She has more options than most Pokemon and that in itself is really impressive.

But if all of them are options she'd like to do, then that means there's no wrong decision, right? That's what the Shinx thinks, at least.)

[Steve still believes in those words]

I agree with that. Those are the people I want to see get taken out most.

I can see how that could help him, yes.

[Amber thinks about that and almost does a shrug. She knows she'll pick right, but still hard to choose.

But then there's a noise off screen that Amber looks interested in. She looks back at Tempo and tells him it was nice to meet him and she hoped to talk to him again but there's a thing. And with a quick bye, she prances away.]

Oh, there goes the girl of the hour. She likes caring for the Litwick egg I have.
