ACTION // Deep Within the Ice Path

[One minute Steve is wandering around Goldenrod, the next he's blinking away dizziness as he finds himself in an ice covered cave. The initial shock stuns him for a few minutes, but when that passes, he gets out his uniform jacket and whatever else he can to bundle up. His Espeon curls tighter around his neck, offering as much of her warmth as she can. He doesn't want to stay here any longer than he has to.

Hours later, Steve is completely lost. He's gone in circles more often than anything else. After some time, he let's his Litwick out, who happily settles between Steve's arm and shield, offering warmth. Grace, his Lucario, scouts off ahead frequently to find a way out with no luck, wrought with concern as Steve gets continuously more frustrated, cold, and anxious.]

VIDEO // Ice Path (Evening)

[Steve is bundled up the best he can with no winter clothing, Amber curled around his neck and Tallow, the Litwick, is cuddled to his chest, happily trying to warm up his trainer. Steve is covering up his anxiety with an uncomfortable smile]

I'm at a complete loss as to how, but I've wound up in these ice caves and I have no clue how to get out. [his smile falters a little, but quickly recovers] I've been trying for hours, but have made no progress. Can anyone tell me how to get out of here? Seeing that I wasn't prepared for winter, I'd rather not stay here for too much longer.

[He'd seen the video on a passing stranger's 'gear and headed off. The person who rounds the nearby corner isn't dressed as Billy but instead as Wiccan with his red cape. Still, the same Pokemon sits on his shoulder.]

Did you call for a rescue, Cap?

[Steve looks at the new arrival, blinking because he wasn't expecting someone to just show up. The person looks and sounds familiar, but he can't be positive, until Amber tells him that they met that Emolga the other day. Also, other than Tony, no one else has called him Cap]

Are you... Billy?

[huffs an uncomfortable laugh] And it would seem I did.

I can't find a GPS satellite to hack, so afraid not. But I can keep you awake if you're not comfortable falling asleep there.

[nods, because yes, that helps. Not that he's really tired, he just wants to not freeze again]

Keeping me awake works.

Great. How many fire types you got?

Just this little guy. [Holds the Litwick more into frame, who makes the happiest sound because he loves the attention]

Huh. So arranging their names alphabetically won't keep you occupied.

Still, he looks pretty enthused. What's he evolve into, a hearth?

Probably not, no. Unless you mean in total, then I have an Arcanine too, boxed. So Arcanine, Litwick. [amused]

He evolved into a lamp, then a chandelier. But he's about 30 levels from that.

See, if he evolves into a lamp and a chandelier, I think he should be part electric, too. But that might be a little 21st century bias creeping in.

Are there any fire/electric types? I can't think of any.

He's a ghost/fire type. He's more like a lamp you light the candle, close the glass, and walk around with it, not the one on your bedside table. I'm sure you've seen them in movies.

[takes the moment to actually look up any fire/electric types]

One. A Rotom... they can change type depending on the device they possess. [Decides Tony needs one]

Black and white ones, sure.

I wonder what happens if it possesses a lamp. The bedside table kind. Too bad you don't have one, though-- that sounds very warm.

Glad to know young people are still watching the black and white ones.

I don't know if it can possess a lamp, it didn't say, but it said it becomes fire type when it possesses a heater, so yes, it would be very nice to have right now.

Ice? Oh wow. I could... probably bypass a lot of it, but that... really assumes I can find you in the first place.

Bypass it? [gives her a curious look] If I knew where in these caves I was, I'd let you know.

[She makes a hesitant, noncommittal hum.]

Well, I could still probably try... I think I'm pretty close to the entrance.

[She flips the camera, showing the front of the ice cave, and just starts walking directly towards a spot about a foot away from the entrance proper.

And she keeps walking towards that solid bit of rock.

And keeps walking.

She's right at it now, the tips of her toes against the solid rock and ice, and she just keeeeeeeeeeeeeps walking right on through.]

My way's a little... faster, if you really, like, need to be rescued.

That's a great trick you got there. [Honestly impressed, hasn't seen something like that yet]

You're way looks a lot faster, and yes, the sooner I get out of here, the better for my sanity. Thank you. [He's not stupid, he knows he'll have some kind of PTSD attack if he stays here too long and gets too cold] I got directions, but it'll still be a day or two before I find my way out.

[She turns the camera back to show a relieved smile. No anti-mutant prejudice in sight!]

Directions are good, too. I can-- I mean, if you're touching me, I can pull you through the walls, too, so we'll be out pretty fast.

[Yeah, he's never met or known about mutants, but even if he did he'd support them without prejudice]

No, never been here before. Had actually planned to never come here. [He says that with a forced lightheartedness]

Really now? That's a really great ability you have there. [sounds like an easily abused one too, but she seems nice enough so far that it's not a concern to him]

Yeah... [Didn't she call this a curse once? She's okay with using it casually at home now, and using it as a vigilante was amazing, but...]

I don't blame you. If I say this place gives me the chills, I'm being as literal as, like, possible.

[She comes up to a fork in the path and frowns.]

You can't tell me east or west, can you? Although if the walls aren't too thick, I could probably get away with just poking my head into every chamber.

[She starts to test that.]

Um, hello? Tell me if you hear an echo...

Which way are you coming from? Route 44 or Blackthorn? [Steve is very unsure, he's consulting his directions, but to know how to follow them properly, he kind of needs to know where he is in here]

Didn't hear anything.

Uh.

[Excuse her while she runs back out.]

That's... um, how would I know the difference? I just showed up here.

Do you see a city or some kind of civilization? Or just a road and wilderness?

Oh. Duh.

[She giggles a little nervously...]

Think I see a couple buildings-- yes, definitely!

[And she points the camera there.]

So from Blackthorn... [Checks his instructions and mentally flips them] Then I think it's a west.

My Lucario ran off to find a way out, so if you run into her, she might lead you back this way.

Great. [She goes back in at a jog, quickly reaching her previous point and phasing through a western wall into an icy chamber.]

Wish I had a jacket.

Hello! Um, Miss Lucario?

[Her voice echoes a little bit, as she walks through a couple ice formations.]

Coming up on another western wall. Do you, um, like, how close are you to needing medical help?

[he gives her a small smile]

I'm not needing any medical help right now, so I'll be just fine if it takes too long to find me and you need to leave. I don't want you freezing for me.

Her name is Grace.

[Insert detailed instructions on how to get through Ice Path from Mahogany to Blackthorn here, including some landmarks and such. It... it might be a little TLDR. Oops.]

[France looks like he's trying to remember something he doesn't actually have good or accurate memories of.]

From what I heard, the floor with ice on it is pretty safe to slide around on and doing so is the only way out of there.

[He grimaces.]

I don't quite remember much else. People don't usually elect to go to the Ice Path.

[gives France a smile, though he's obviously cold]

I didn't chose to come here, but thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that ice floor.

[He does not sound sure at all.]

I only know one person who has gone there, and it was during one of these disconcerting events.

[He remembers very little but a video of someone sliding around and screaming. This does not seem like information he should share.]

If it's any help, once you find your way out, you'll either end up in Blackthorn City or Route 44.

[Makes an unpleasant face at the idea of there being more than one and isn't sure what he means by "disconcerting events" but decides to not ask]

Both are better than this place, so I don't mind which one I end up at. But yes it does, I wasn't sure where this place was.

[France sighs, expression sympathetic.]

All caves in this place look the same. The only thing good about the Ice Path is that it has discernable features.

[He runs his hand through his hair.]

I'm not sure about the other times, but the one time this sort of thing happened that I clearly remember the event from, it is possible to travel much faster through any kind of obstacle than usual. I think I remember someone running across the majority of Johto in a couple of days.

The ice does help it look different from other caves. [Steve is at least grateful that it made it easier to not know at least generally where he is and easier for people to help him]

Really? That'd be pretty great actually, but it seems more like it's harder than normal, just that I feel like I'm going in circles. My Pokemon are even having trouble figuring out how to get around.

[France makes a thoughtful noise, rubbing his hand over his chin.]

When this sort of thing has happened in the past, it's always killed any sort of logic that has ever applied to this place. I don't remember nearly as much as other people have, but these things only last two to three days. You will likely not be there much longer.

[China, when he was here, was particularly good at remembering Fourth Wall events, but there's neither here nor there.]

Well, that's good then. I didn't know this kind of thing's happened before. Do you know why it happens? Or it just happens with no explanation?

I wish I knew why this happens. It's like I've fallen backwards centuries and no longer understand why it rains.

[France sighs explosively, half out of frustration and half to stop himself from going into full whine.]

The only solid correlations between these events are that they always happen on weekends and they're reliably absurd.

I keep a stock of Hyper Potions and Full Heals at all times, just in case.

I have a number of those, but it would be good idea to keep a stockpile.
